Brown Pants Chili
A hearty ground-meat chili with mixed beans, salsa, and jalapeños. Adjust the peppers and seasoning to your preferred heat, with stovetop and slow-cooker options.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground meat
- ½ onion, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic salt
- 2 ½ cups tomato sauce (optional, we just use Salsa)
- 1 (8 ounce) jar salsa (more if skipping tomato sauce, as desired)
- 4 Tablespoons chili seasoning mix
- 1 (15 ounce) can light red kidney beans
- 1 (15 ounce) can dark red kidney beans
- 1 (15 ounce) can black beans
- 1 (15 oz) can of chili beans
- 4-6 Jalapenos (depends on size)
Instructions
Stovetop
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the ground meat and the onion and sauté for 10 minutes, or until meat is browned and onion is tender. Drain grease, if desired.
- Add the ground black pepper, garlic salt, tomato sauce, salsa, chili seasoning mix and beans.
- Mix well, reduce heat to low and simmer for at least an hour.
Slow-cooker option
- Alternative: Put in a slow cooker after the meat and onions are cooked. It will be more “soupy”, but easier to move and serve.
Variations
- Add crushed red pepper flakes or other spicy pepper flakes
- Adjust salsa for heat level, such as Arribba Hot or Jalapeno hot salsa.
- Add more type of pepper if you want it more peppery vs beany (green, red, yellow bell peppers)
- Skip black pepper, garlic salt if house seasoning is already balanced for it.
