Baked Ziti
Baked ziti layered with ricotta, mozzarella, and tomato sauce, then finished with a melted cheese topping. Includes the option to use our Simple Tomato-Lard Sauce.
Recommended to pair with our Simple Tomato-Lard Sauce.
Note: This recipe is older, I recommend adjusting it to how we now do things.
Ingredients
- 1 pound box ziti pasta, uncooked
- 1 onion, chopped (skip if using our home made sauce recipe)
- 1 pound lean ground beef (skip if using our home made sauce recipe)
- 2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce (skip if using our home made sauce recipe)
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup Kraft Grated Three Cheese Blend (recommend shredding your own cheese blend)
- 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.
- In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef over medium heat. (skip if using our home made sauce)
- Add spaghetti sauce, and simmer 15 minutes. (skip if using our home made sauce)
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer as follows: 1/2 of the ziti, ricotta cheese, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining ziti, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture.
- Top with grated Three Cheese Blend.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until cheeses are melted.
Notes
Note: Ingredients should be adjusted to scale up. This will handle a single 9×13
Tip: On the ricotta cheese, try the recipe from our lasagna and warm it up before attempting to spread it. If that is too difficult to spread on ziti, you can change to different cheeses that are shredded or sliced.
